People often ask "What happens to your girls when they retire?". Well, that depends! Some of our girls will stay here with us to live out the rest of their days, but some we will place in loving homes with a family who best fits their personality.
We have some girls who will retire this Fall/Winter. We typically retire our girls at age 4 or 5 but a couple of girls retiring this year will only be 3 at retirement. We are slimming down our program just a bit and letting some of our girls enjoy an early retirement is an excellent way to accomplish this goal.
Some things we look for in a family for our retired girls are:
-A willingness to work through any behavior issues. These girls may not come to you as perfect angels, lol and just like a puppy, they may require some training and we want our families to know this up front.
-Patience. We ask you give your girl enough time to adjust to her new home before determining if she is or is not a good fit, we will work with you through this process as you decide what is best for your family and our girl as well.
- We prefer homes who have more time to spend with their new family member, so having a family member who is retired or works from home, while not a requirement, is a big plus for us.
-Lastly, we want a family who has experience with this breed and is familiar with the care requirements, while Goldens aren't a high maintenance breed, we do want someone who knows what to expect, especially understanding the amount of hair and shedding that comes along with the breed, because it is a LOT!!
Just the same as our puppies, when one of our girls leave us, we do so with the understanding that if you get home and decide this is not the right fit, the girl must come back to us so we can begin the process of evaluating the next family. We do this so our girls don't somehow get lost in cycle of wrong homes and heaven forbid end up in a shelter somewhere.
We do charge for our retired girls, obviously not the cost of our puppies but we do ask $1000, this covers her spay surgery and we also include a lifetime membership to Baxter and Bella training company so they can assist you with any training questions that may arise as you bring your new family member home.
